Learning
a new sport can
be
difficult. KCK understands this and provides informative club supported
introductory paddle sports instruction each spring. Our emphasis is
focused primarily on
safety followed by education. KCK teaches classes to the membership
in basic flatwater canoing, moving water canoing, whitewater kayaking,
sea kayaking, and rafting. Each class is a mixture of classroom and
hands-on exposure to equipment and techniques followed by one or more
days/evenings of practical on-the-water experiential learning. Winter
pool rolling sessions are also organized by KCK members and commercial
instructors to learn/hone
paddling skills/techniques during the non boating season. Discounts are
offered to KCK members by some of the commercial paddling
instructors in the state when enrolling in their training
classes.
As part
of our effort to raise awareness of the various aspects of safety in
paddle
sports, KCK hosts an Annual Paddling Safety Meeting which is open to
the general public as well as members. We offer presentations on
various
safety topics pertinent to paddling in Alaska.
The KCK Annual Paddling Safety Meeting will be held on April 19, 2012.

You must be a current KCK member in order

In keeping with KCK's non-profit
status, all KCK instructors are unpaid volunteers. Proceeds go to help
sustain KCK as a safety minded paddling club.
